The core component is the Optical Strand, which is connected to the fiber optic cable. Fiber optic cables can transport the "deformation information" across great distances with no need for conversion or amplification of the optic signals. The OSMOS system is reliable tested durable user-friendly cost-effective The optoelectronic system contains three modules: in the Opto-Box (1), optic signals are converted into electric signals and passed along for data extraction and recording of their values by a controlunit (2). These values can then be conveyed to a monitoring PC via modem or data line (3).
